Tokyo, as historic and cultured as it may be, still evolves with new hot spots and hidden gems every day. Thankfully, we have curators like Poggy to help guide the way to these new destinations. Poggy's guide to new hot spots – all opened this year – includes some great new fashion shops and restaurants, along with some truly hidden gems of bars and dives. Some are secretive... for a reason. But don't say you didn't at least get a hint from Poggy – start here and once you find them, keep them secret, keep them safe.

"Tucked away in Mishuku, just outside of Shibuya, this intimate sound-focused hideout was created by an owner obsessed with audio. The sound system is swapped out regularly, so every visit feels different. A must for true sound lovers."

"A luxurious space where you can enjoy Japanese jazz records from the 60s and 70s played through OJAS speakers designed by Devon, all while sipping on a drink. Being from Hokkaido myself, I often order Yoichi whisky here. Reservations are taken via Instagram DM."

"Enjoy fine dining inside a beautifully wood-paneled yakatabune (Japanese houseboat). Chefs rotate regularly, so check Instagram DM for details. I once made the mistake of visiting while hungover—resulting in a “double whammy” of hangover and seasickness—so make sure you’re feeling your best to fully enjoy the experience."

"Opened by the former owner of Beef Kitchen, where I used to go often, Teddy Brown serves incredible burgers. The signature TB BURGER is a standout, with uniquely textured buns that will keep you coming back."

"Known for producing high-quality eyewear in Sabae, Japan, JMM’s Tokyo gallery reflects designer Jerome’s deep respect for Japanese craftsmanship. The space, designed by Shinichiro Ogata of SIMPLICITY, is a stunning blend of Japanese and Western aesthetics. A bar is also located in the basement."

"Designer Terada envisioned a space where visitors can relax as if sitting on a bench in a museum, quietly taking in the works of art around them. The concept is fully realized here. Winner of the Fashion Prize of Tokyo 2026, YOKE will present its first show in Paris next January. One to watch."

"Since its founding in 2017, NICENESS has steadily gained a reputation for quality craftsmanship among Japanese fashion enthusiasts. In June, the brand opened its long-awaited flagship store in Ebisu."

"Reopened in April, TABAYA curates “the real thing” from around the world with a focus on Wa(Japanese aesthetics), refined beauty, and quality living. If you’re looking for items that reflect Japanese sensibility, this is the place."
